SKYLINE | Drogue Chute
Safety comes first.
SKYLINE Drogue Chute V2 Description
Conventional drogue chutes are mostly made according to the original design with very short, sometimes unsuitable bridle lines and with a center line! This leads to unreliable opening or malfunction due to the lines getting tangled during the opening process.
Below is a description of a new generation of drogue chutes!
Features:
- Longer lines and thus more stable aerodynamics mean less tendency to pendulum
- Parachute lines reduce tangles
- Cascade design – Reducing the number of lines also reduces the entanglement of the lines
- Rope connections in splicing technique - also reduces snagging
- No centerline – less pendulum tendency and also reduces snagging
- Inner container and pilot chute – the drogue chute is located in an inner container and cannot get tangled in the airflow while you are still holding it after pulling. Once released, the pilot chute catches the wind and pulls the brake chute out of the inner container, opening reliably.
- The installation and length of the system must be coordinated with the aircraft! Short for devices with a tail wing, long without a tail wing.
- Attention: the use of the drogue chute may only take place during a straight final approach, as in a turn the stall speed is reached more quickly and a stall is the result.
- When the speed is doubled, the sink rate increases by the square.
- When connecting to the harness, a central attachment is advantageous
- A cover strip prevents the connection line from fluttering in the wind while flying
- The use of a swivel with ball bearings is recommended
Skyline Drogue Chute: Packing Instructions
- Place the inner container, lines, drogue chute, and pilot chute in an orderly manner and weigh down the inner container with a weight.
- Arrange 3 x 2 ropes so that 2 ropes are on the right, 2 ropes are on the left, and 2 ropes are in the center at the top (this way, everything will be positioned correctly when packing into the inner container later).
- Fold the canopy multiple times (3 times) so that it fits into the larger, lower compartment of the inner container. The pilot chute remains outside the inner container!
- The small opening marked with the black Skyline label for threading the handle is now ideally within reach (on the right) => Insert the handle into the pilot chute and pull it through the upper opening of the pilot chute.
- Now fold the lines in spirals so that they lie as neatly as possible in the smaller compartment of the inner container.
- Finally, pull the pilot chute over the inner container and insert the package into the drogue chute pocket integrated into the harness.
Skyline Drogue Chute: Opening
- The strap pocket of the drogue chute can be opened before pulling the brake parachute. It is advisable to attach a well-grippable PG line to the zipper slider if this is intended.
- The zipper of the drogue chute bag should also open when you pull the drogue chute directly by the handle out of the bag, while paying attention to the
- Pull direction: down and forward. Practice this procedure on the ground while harnessed!
- As long as the canopy is held by the handle, it does not open, as the pilot chute is pressed against the inner container from the outside by the airflow.
- If you let the drogue chute fall into its inner container, the pilot chute opens, tightens the connecting line to the harness, and pulls the chute out of the bag.
